Mr. Ruhl, Country Director, World Bank & Mr. Maini, DMD, SIDBI visit Bandhan
Bandhan had the opportunity to host Mr. Onno Ruhl, Country Director, World Bank and Mr. Navin Kumar Maini,
Deputy Managing Director, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) on July 10, 2014. Both were
accompanied by senior officials of their respective organizations.
The high profile guests left the city early morning to travel to Bandhan’s field at Ghatakpukur in the district
of South 24 Parganas to witness both microfinance and development activities at the grass root level. Firstly,
they walked into a microfinance group meeting wherein they interacted with the women borrowers who have taken
loans and invested in various income generating activities. They also had the opportunity to visit a few nearby
projects/ enterprises of the borrowers. Post the microfinance program, the dignitaries visited a beneficiary of
Targeting the Hard core Poor (THP) Program. The visitors interacted with the beneficiary at her household,
observed her livelihood project and witnessed the transformation that Bandhan has brought about in the lives of
many destitutes like her. Therafter, they dropped by at one of Bandhan’s Non–Formal Primary schools as part of
observing Bandhan’s Education Program.
After the field trip, the visitors from World Bank and SIDBI travelled back to the city to reach Bandhan’s Head
Office where a brief interaction with the senior management took place. A corporate presentation too was delivered
in order to provide a brief insight about the organization’s history, programs, policies, processes, future plans
of transforming into a bank and the like.
Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan accompanied the dignitaries to the field. Before departing,
they extended good wishes to the proposed Bandhan bank and assured of all their support going forward. Many media friends
were also present.
